Comedy/ 2 Characters, 2 men/ One Act
Synopsis: An off-duty policeman releases his frustrations with his wife by going to the park and flying his kite. While there, he comes across a teacher lying in the grass, reading his newspaper. The teacher is startled by the policeman shooting birds who come near his kite. The two are soon at odds, until they start talking about the problems they’re having with their significant others, which creates a testosterone bond between the two.

About the Playwright: Fred Rohan-Vargas is the author of several full-length, one-acts and children’s plays produced throughout the country and abroad. He holds an MFA in dramatic writing from New York University and has received recognition in theatre and music. He is the recipient of a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts Theatre Commissions for his play “Crystal,” later produced in New York City and published in 2005 by JAC Publishing and Promotions in Massachusetts. He has also been included in Riant Theatre’s national one-act festival’s anthology, “The Best Plays From The Strawberry One Act Festival” (published in 2005) for his play “Anything But Black.” In 2014, his play, “Tide Beyond the Rift,” was nominated for three awards in the Midtown International Theatre Festival. His most recent production, “Yaki Yim Bamboo the Musical,” received four stars from Show-Score and was considered for the Off-Broadway Alliance Awards.
Fred Rohan-Vargas’s love for writing songs has given him “Honorable Mention Awards” from The Billboard World Songwriters’ Contest, John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Great American Song Contest, Unisong International Songwriting Contest, and the Suggested Artist Songwriting Award. In addition, he has three songs on a compilation of CDs by the Nashville Songwriters Association International (“The Best of Holidays”), the Pick With Austin Foundation (“My Gift of Music”), and Paramount Song.com (“My Gift for Christmas”). Currently, he has his music played throughout Southeast Asia.
Fred has served on the theatre/dance grant panel for Huntington Arts Council, the Queens Council on the Arts, the panel of judges for the Daytime Emmy Awards, and the Board of Directors for the New York Children’s Theatre. He is currently the founder and Executive Producer of Mixing It Up Productions, LLC, and serves on the advisory board of Ripple Effects Artists, Inc.
